The Gravity of Photography

PHOTOs Transports us through time.

Photography stops time and allows us to time travel. It's the closest thing to magic we have. It's your mom reading a book to you as a toddler, comfort surrounding you. It's your grandparents, no longer earth-side, arms full of babies, hearts so happy. Photos transport us. They're the only thing that remains to take us of the smell of your baby's head, fresh from a bath, the leathery texture of your grandfather's capable hands, it's happy tears on your wedding day.

It reminds us of warm arms that held you near and loved you deeply. And for just a moment magic happens, and sends you back to that exact place in time.

Motherhood is the Reason I Create

As a new mother, I started documenting my children's everything: bath bubbles piled high on heads, wobbly first steps, and messy dinner faces. These precious little faces I had work to carry, birth and raise were growing so quickly, it was a race against time. The ironic part of me being a photographer is I have too few of photos of me when I was in the thick of motherhood and my boys were itty bitty. I wish I was in the frame with my children, that someone had jumped in and said, "Oh, what a cute moment, let me grab a quick photo!"

As much boys grew so did my determination and during the covid lockdowns of 2020, my sweet husband gifted me a wonderful camera. I put aside time to earn a Professional Photography Certificate and began to go all-in on something that I'd thought wasn't right for, that I wasn't ____ (insert insecurity there). Photography and parenthood are similar in a lot of those respects.

Parenting means imperfection. It's messy. It's those little sandy hands, holding yours, while you play at the beach, it's a PB&J smeared kiss on your cheek, it's all this and so much more. I want to carve out a little moment for you and your family, to hold on to the precious gift of life, so you can enjoy the moment for the rest of your life!

Marriage is a Daily COMMITMENT

My husband and I met when we were both in college- Go Cougs! And we've been married since Twilight's Eclipse came out, yeah you can do the math on that one. We have moved all over the country now several times and he is my home, the constant variable in life. My husband is my best friend. He's got a wicked sense of humor and is even-tempered, a natural leader. I tend to be more spontaneous and a bit of a daydreamer. While we may be different, we are the same where it counts.

Marriage is awesome, it's laughing until you can't breathe, it's simple, it's light. Okay, okay.. yes some days require a wee bit more patience and somedays it's just downright work, especially once certain characteristics start to be more annoying, than endearing. To my core, I believe in marriage as a deep-seated friendship, add in communication, respect, and a bit of romance and you've got the makings of a great relationship!

I want you to know I do not take the job of capturing your images carelessly. I feel the extreme weight of documenting this special moment for you and preserving it for decades to come.
