A Thoughtful Jekyll Island Proposal
Matthew was thinking months ahead. During our planning call, he told me how quickly his weeks go by—and that something this important and deserved a plan.
But what stood out was how often our conversation came back to Audrey Claire. What would she love? Which setting would feel right? How would they want to remember this season together?
That’s where a proposal photography session begins for me: getting to know the people at the center of it.
Making room for the moment
For their Jekyll Island proposal, we planned around Crane Cottage and the largest oak tree area in the historic district. Matthew was drawn to the cottages and trees, so we explored those options together instead of automatically choosing the beach.
There were multiple photography sessions happening that same evening, so we luckily had a backup plan nearby at the Cherokee Cottage. Luckily the area was free, and gave a signal to know the Crane Cottage (our first choice), was free!
Then came the little details you might never think to ask a photographer: where to put the phone, which way to open the ring box, and how to give yourselves a moment before turning your attention to the camera.
My favorite advice? Take your time. You don’t have to rush through the words you’ve been waiting to say.
Thoughtful preparation gives you room to be present—and gives me the information I need to photograph what unfolds!
A ring chosen with her in mind
Matthew had talked with Audrey Claire about the ring and chose one that came with a matching wedding band. He joked that having the pair already matched was exactly the help he needed.
I loved that detail. There was care behind the choice, with a little practicality and humor mixed in. Those are the things that make a couple’s story feel like their own.
From a plan, to an heirloom
Even before the session, Matthew was thinking about an heirloom album and possibly framed artwork. We talked about how their photographs could become something they would actually enjoy in their home.
Since then, Matthew and Audrey Claire have approved their album design, and their album order has been placed. That’s such a meaningful part of this story: the photographs are becoming something they can hold, revisit, and someday share with those they love!
As a full service proposal and engagement photographer, I guide couples through planning, portraits, image selection, and finished artwork, with matching digital files included with purchased artwork.
You have enough decisions ahead of you. Turning your photographs into an album shouldn’t become another unfinished project.
Planning your own proposal or engagement session?
I photograph proposals and engagement portraits in Amelia Island and Fernandina Beach, Florida, and the Golden Isles of Georgia, including Jekyll Island and St. Simons Island.
Whether you’re quietly planning the question or already wearing the ring, we’ll create an experience that feels like you—and photographs with a real place in your life.
